This is a huge piece of Terlingua Calcite (nearly 10 pounds!) for sale. It’s from the Little 38 Mine in Terlingua, Texas. It’s nearly all fluorescent calcite with very little matrix/non-fluorescent material. It glows nicely and with multiple colors under all ultraviolet wavelengths.
There are lots of triangular areas of bright fluorescence on this piece. This is one of the many desirable characteristic in this material that is not always seen in every piece. The striking blue phosphorescence or afterglow lasts for several seconds after exposure to either short wave or mid-wave u.v. Additionally, some of the yellow fluorescing calcite also phosphoresces after exposure to long wave u.v. There are some areas of daylight pink and some faint daylight green on what one might call the base or bottom of the piece. These areas hint at what could be some even better material inside, if one were to decide to break it into smaller pieces.
The piece weighs 9 pounds, 12.9 ounces and measures approximately 7½ x 5¾ x 4½ inches.
