Terlingua Calcite is a classic, hard-to-find fluorescent mineral. It’s classic because it glows brightly in different colors under different wavelengths of ultraviolet (u.v.) light. Additionally, it has a striking blue phosphorescence or afterglow that lasts for several seconds after it’s exposed to mid-wave or short wave u.v. This piece combines those features with rich and multiple colors, giving us a multi-color, multi-wave fluorescent. This cabinet sized piece has at least two display sides that you can display from multiple angles.
Under long wave ultraviolet, this piece glows in several shades of pink, including a very desirable shade of hot pink. It also has some lilac, and some more subdued yellow and orange in long wave. In mid-wave, the bright pink lends its color to the typical mid-wave purple respnse, bringing the purple color toward the pink end of the spectrum in places. The subdued yellow and orange are also present in mid-wave. Under short wave, we see the strong pink also lending its color to what would usually be an electric blue, resulting in blue with some pink tones.
If the fluorescent responses are not enough, this piece is pretty in daylight as well. It has some nice crystallization, and some areas that show a lovely daylight pink color. The daylight pink areas correspond to areas of brighter fluorescence. And while it’s “smaller,” it’s still a cabinet sized piece that’s right at 4 inches wide. With the brightness and the saturated colors, this piece can hold its own in nearly any fluorescent display.
This piece measures approximately 4 x 2¼ x 1¾ inches and weighs 10.9 ounces. This bright, colorful piece is SOLD.
